Day 56 #100horsesbyroxanne
I'm still looking at the idea of just how much detail a figurative drawing/painting really needs in order to communicate to and affect the person creating it and the person viewing it.
Again, I'm using graphite sticks and a standard 2B pencil today plus pastel and an eraser. The pastel seems to add another layer to the drawing compared to if I had left the white of the paper to come through as I did on days 54 and 55. It also means that the pencil and graphite have something else to blend with which seems to create softer tones.
I've tried smudging parts of the drawing using a variety of tools, my fingers, kitchen roll and a blending stump. I wanted to blend out the lines of the graphite in the foreground but couldn't seem to get rid of them. I'm not sure why this is but will investigate further into ways I can achieve the effect I'm after.
